Neurological or ocular symptoms are commonly associated with advanced FIP progression.In these cases, time matters. Delaying treatment decisions may significantly impact outcomes.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a serious viral disease caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus (FCoV).With modern antiviral treatment, FIP is no longer considered a fatal disease.
No. FIP itself is not contagious.While feline coronavirus can spread between cats, the mutated virus that causes FIP does not.
FIP is more commonly seen in: - Kittens and young cats - Cats in shelters or multi-cat households - Cats under stress or with weakened immunity Most cats exposed to coronavirus never develop FIP.
Common signs include: - Persistent fever - Loss of appetite and weight loss - Lethargy - Abdominal or chest fluid (wet FIP) - Neurological or eye symptoms (dry FIP) Symptoms vary by cat and disease type.
There is no single definitive test for FIP. Diagnosis is based on: - Clinical signs - Bloodwork (such as A/G ratio) - Imaging or fluid analysis
Standard treatment lasts 84 days (12 weeks). Cats that complete the full course and remain stable afterward are considered cured.
